The Voluntary Aid Detachment

Three eminent women: Agatha Christie, Enid Bagnold and Vera Brittain; known for their remarkable literature, were actually members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD). VAD - a voluntary unit that provided nursing care to fill in gaps in the Territorial medical services. Their experiences as VAD nurses had inspired them to have published well known novels and memoirs.

This project will reveal the unknown stories behind their inspiration and how their VAD experiences had caused their lives to have changed forever.
